it’s always been my philosophy to try to make art out of the everyday and ordinary… it never occurred to me to leave home to make art.
— Sally Mann

When I first heard of Sally Mann in college I can’t say her work really spoke to me. I new she was controversial with her pictures of her naked children and then decaying corpses. Although it wasn’t her subject matter that bothered me, I just didn’t get it or maybe I wasn't interested at the time. Now as I enter my late 30’s, a parent immersed in the day to day of child rearing. I appreciate the family portraits she shared with the world. They are beautiful, timeless and relatable.

And so I thought I share this little interview clip I saw yesterday with Charlie Rose. (Can't seem to embed the clip so you'll have to click the link).  I’m curious to read her memoir, Hold Still as well. Happy Friday! K

P.S. Also heard this interview with Sally Mann and Terry Gross on Fresh Air that is fascinating. Love Terry Gross!
