Package Free

Creating print products for a business who’s mission is to produce less waste seems counterintuitive. When a significant portion of a customer base may not be technologically experienced, sometimes print is a reasonable and welcome solution. Thinking about what happens to something printed is part of the design process. Could this be reused? How many times could this be used, before it needs to be replaced? What happens in the end? Could it have another use? Could this be composted? Could this be truly recycled? These are some of the questions to think about when designing a brochure for a client who goal is to make less waste. But it is also important to think about these question when designing for any client.

Tare Market

a package-free market and refill station in Minneapolis, was looking for a brochure to explain how to shop at their market since the process is a different experience then traditional markets. The brochure was to act as a map for those new to the market experience and process. The Market uses paper bags, cloth bags, glass jars to purchase or refill bulk pantry and personal care items. In keeping in compliance with the store mission to reduce waste, the brochure was to be printed on recyclable paper, minimize colored inks and encourage shoppers to bring the brochure back for reusability with a pretty generous discount.

On jar brand tags

for pre-filled jars. Like all business in 2020 adapting to COVID measure, one solution for this package free market was to offer pre-filled jars that make ideal gifts for the holidays. Tags for soup and cookies were designed for winter gift giving. A candy treat label was designed for Valentines & Easter. Tare Market wanted tags that could be easily printed on site and on brand.

Cookie + Soup Mix tag included jar ingredients and instructions on tag for ease of use to all customers. For the candy jar a QR code allowed for a simpler front and back tag.
